Is the sentence grammatically correct?

Is the following sentence grammatically correct? I think the comma should be changed to semicolon, and “was believing” should be “would have believed”. Do you think so?
“Thank you for your timely reminding, I was believing what the cheat said.” He said gratefully.

Top answer

"Thank you for your timely reminder— I believed what the cheat said , ” he responded gratefully. Two 'said's in a row are not good style.

Why is the simple present tense used here? I feel the subjunctive mood is better here, because after being reminded, "I" didn't believe what the cheat had said.

What? You used subjunctive nowhere...
wangqh2696122because after being reminded, "I" didn't believe what the cheat had said.
...and this has nothing to do with subjunctive or any other verb form that I can see.
