Is the sentence correct?

Is there anything wrong (grammatically or otherwise) in the following sentence:
"Please tell me what the progress is over there."

I would suggest "Please tell me how much progress is being made."

Can you say "What the progress is?" I guess. It doesn't sound right to me.

If you are happy with "What is the progress?" then it's okay.
