Is the second "were" optional?

(1) Two persons were killed and seven (were) wounded when a bomb went off on the roadside.

Is the second "were" optional?

(2) One person was killed and seven injured when .....

Can I omit "were" in this sentence?

Hi Abil I'd say yes to both. In your first sentence, I'd prefer 'people' (rather than 'persons'), however.
