is the second preposition necessary here?

Hi,

Ex: All our receivers are able to compute position based on Galileo satellites only and on combined GPS+Galileo.

Is the second preposition 'on' (marked bold) necessary in this sentence?

Removing "on" only makes a bad sentence worse. All our receivers are able to compute position s based on either Galileo satellites only or a combination of GPS+Galileo satellites.

Is it ABSOLUTELY necessary to put "position" in the plural in this sentence?

Yes, because "time" can be considered uncountable. The combination "time and position" would also be sensed as uncountable.
