The researches strived to answer the question ‘why the society does not trust the government and believes that the government is corupted?’

"Researchers" is also possible. I like it better.

No. We use "do" as a helping verb in questions.

Why do birds sing? (plural subject)
Why does the baby sleep so much? (singular subject)
Why does she love me?
Why do I love her?
Why do you snub me on Facebook?
