is the posessive case possible/needed here?

Hi,

Could somebody please comment on the following sentense:

All ancillary equipment is plugged into the appropriate sockets on the receiver rear panel.

Please note the highlighted words.

Do I understand correctly that "rear"
is a noun here?

Can I rewrite the original version as "...the receiver's rear panel"?

Which version do YOU prefer (aasuming that the version with the possesive is okay)?

Thank you!

Another option is the rear receiver panel. As long as there is only one receiver, it seems more usual to me.
