Is the future (simple) acceptable here?

hello,
In a fill in the blanks with the right tense, I saw the following sentence: My brother (finish) his homework by midnight. I think the right tense is the future perfect (my brother will have finished his homework by midnight), but would the "simple" future (will finish)acceptable?
Thanks
