Is the following usage is common

Is the following usage common only in academic style writings or in daily conversations?

Little did I dream of becoming a teacher.
On his lap sat his daughter.
Nothing has he written on the answer sheet.

In writing, I think they are really common. In speaking, the first and the third seem to be commonly used also. I do not hear people using the second one that much in spoken language. And please, people do use these quite a lot in both writing and speaking. Do not say they are not common.

Yes, you're right. To me, your sentences are rarely used, either in written form or conversation.

The first is not very natural. We would be far more likely to say "Little did I dream that I would become a teacher". If the speaker did not become a teacher, we would not use the 'little did I dream' structure.
