Is the first part of this text necessary?

I understand the importance of having a good behavior while working in a professional environment, so if I were to deal with a less reasonable customer I would remain calm and polite. I would not take the customer's anger personally and I would do everything in my power to help.

or if I just start the text with "If I were to deal with a less reasonable customer I would remain calm and polite..." it is understood that I know the importance of having a good behavior by saying this. Right?
