It was pretty awesome, hearing Zack and Miri come to life for the first time.

Hoa ThaiI also prefer to hear over hearing.Wasn't this discussed in another thread just recently? It really would not be unusual to say "It was pretty awesome hearing (something)".

I see it differently. If it can be said that any significant difference exists, the use of "hearing" (rather than "to hear") tends to enhance the idea of "come to life", in my opinion. Somehow it sounds less "clinical" to me.
