The temple was renovated in/ for preparation for a major earthquake.
Is the above sentence OK? Which bold word should I use?
What I mean is that the temple was renovated to withstand a major earthquake.

You need to replace 'renovate' with a more appropriate word. ('reinforce' comes to my mind)
