Is that your student? Yes it/he is. ←which is correct?

Q1: Is that your student?

A1: Yes, he is.

Yes, it is.

Q2: That is your student, isn't it?

A2: Yes, he is.

Yes, it is.

Q3: That's your sister, look!

A3: So she is!

So it is!

May I ask what kind of pronoun should I use in those answers? Which is correct (or most commonly used)? Is it "wrong" to use "it"?

Well, there are also plenty of times people will simply say "Yeah" or "Yup" -- or maybe even a proper "Yes" (gasp!) -- and not add a tag at all.
