Is 'that that' or double that in, other words, allowed in a sentence?

I can't remember where I saw it, but it struck me immediately. Obviously that had two different functions in the sentence, but I am wondering is it allowed in the grammar?

Thank you.

Didn't you know that that always happens when a that -clause has that as its subject? He said the answer was 12, and I told him that that was right. I wanted her to leave the key on the kitchen table for me, so this morning I reminded her that that was what I wanted.

Surely you've heard an echo.

An echo happens when you yell something and that yell bounces off a hard surface, so you hear the same sound coming back to your ears. (but softer) Play this sound clip:

I had a student once who wrote "I like that picture".

I told her that that 'that', that she had written in red, should be in black.
