Is that formal?

Hi,
I started to use "I was wondering....I wonder" in most of my email conversations these days. I got it from native speakers when I was working as a customer support rep.

Is that formal to use these words in text content? Or this can be only used while talking?

Thanks,

Hi,

'I was wondering . . . .' is a polite and informal way of asking a question, both in speaking and in writing.

'I wonder . . . . ' is less common.
