Is 'slips' very appropriate in the two examples?

Example 1:

Finn slips around a corner just before the two bullies enter the corridor.

Example 2:

Tom runs down the hall. Gunman 1 raises his rifle.

Gunman 2: Don't shoot! We need him alive.

Gunman 1 lowers his rifle, and Tom slips around a corner.


SLIP From dictionary: go or move quietly or quickly, without attracting notice.


QUESTION: Is "slips" very appropriate in both of the two examples even though Tom clearly has attracted notice in the second example?
