A friend sent me a link to this yesterday
http://www.thestream.tv/watch.php?v=959a video interview with the people at scriptshark. I have to say that after watching the video interview the notion of selling a screenplay to Hollywood, and then having it made into a film, seems like the odds of winning the lottery and getting struck by lightning on the same day. Very depressing.
Is it really that bad, or is what I hear in the video hyperbole? The video makes is seem like even if you write a great script it is still next to impossible to get it noticed; and if even if do sell a screenplay to a studio/producer, then there is only a 1 in 10 chance it will go the distance and be made into a produced film. What is the fact versus hyperbole?
Because if there is truth to a great script standing little chance of being sold and produced, then that has me thinking of another route (and only if my script was excellent as judged by multiple sources) indie self production. Thoughts?
