Is "rised" proper?

We recently received a program description from an historical society (we are a museum) and the wording was "how he rised up from impoverished immigrant to hero." We are debating the correctness of "rised" versus "rose" before printing it in our monthly newsletter. Can you please help clarify?

Thank you.

If you check your dictionary, you will see that there is no such word as "rised."

The past tense of rise is rose, and the past tense of raise is raised.

If you want to choose between these commonly confused verbs, see the "Usage note" here.

I'm no expert but I'm sure I heard the Radio 4 presenter say,

"British Gas rised their price three times this year".

It sounds wrong but I believe it is non-standard English

and probably correct.
