Is "the" needed here?

Howdy,

Should there be a "the"here?

The printer is quciker than (the) last years's model.

Hi YoungCalifornian,

Is "the" not needed here because "last year's model" is specific enough and no need to go overboard with the one that is already sufficiently specific enough?

By the way, how do we describe "last year's model"? Can we call it a "phrase"?

THANK YOU.

I would say so. There can only be one "last year", so using "the" sounds a bit redundant.

Yes, "phrase" is fine.
