Can I say,

(a) The smoke is polluting (out).

(b) The smoke is polluting from the factories.

(c) The smoke is polluting out from the factory.

(d) The smoke is polluting the air.

(e) The smoke is from the factory polluting.

(a) is possible without "out", but the verb "pollute" is more often transitive. (Though "polluting" could also be considered adjectival, I suppose.)

(d) is correct.

None of the others are natural.
