Is or are

Should it be 'is or are'?

Sales for Monday is/are 500 dollars.
Sales for the month of March is/are 500 dollars.

I think it should be 'are'. Do you agree?

So even though “sales” is plural here, you would think of it as singular as a single sum? I was confused because I was told that ‘are’ should be used before, of I recall correctly!
