Is on properly used here?

Two-space and three-space vectors are drawn on two
axes and three axes to illustrate many of the properties, measurements, and
operations involving vectors.

Yeah, obviously he didn't literally mean ON two and three axes. I was wondering if there was some kind of metaphor or something.

"on" seems to be used rather loosely, but it has the beneft of being concise, and I guess the intended meaning is clear enough. I don't see any sort of metaphor here.
