Is ".. object so supplied" correct ?

Hello everybody.
When I was reading Application Binary Interface book, I came across the following sentence:

"The called function must use the address from the frame and copy the return value to the object so supplied."

Is the bold text correct ? If yes then could you explain to me why it is correct ?

Top answer

It sounds reasonable to me. " You must obtain this address from the frame. This address now becomes "the object so supplied" Next, you must copy the "return value" to that address.

  • It sounds reasonable to me.
  • " You must obtain this address from the frame.
  • This address now becomes "the object so supplied" Next, you must copy the "return value" to that address.
  • That's my best guess.

It sounds reasonable to me. "So supplied" means "thus supplied,'' or "thus obtained."

You must obtain this address from the frame. This address now becomes "the object so supplied"

Next, you must copy the "return value" to that address.

That's my best guess.

Thank you, Avangi, for your reply.
According to your explanation, "so supplied" is equivalent to "that is supplied", which I have never heard of. I couldn't find any dictionaries discussing about this kind of expression. Could you provide one more proof from newspaper/book/dictionary which uses the same kind of expression ?

Hi Rau,
I didn't use the phrase "that is supplied," but I guess you could say it's related.
Perhaps "that is supplied in this way" or "that is supplied by this means" would be appropriate.

Are you saying that you've never heard of "that is supplied," or that you've never heard of "so supplied" being equated to "thus supplied"?

How about "Please use the towel

Hi Avangi. You got a sweet sense of humor.Anyway, what I meant was I had never heard of the fact "that is supplied by this mean" = "so supplied". Therefore, could you provide a proof to support this ?
