Social media has become an important part of many people's life. People interact with each others, share their thoughts and their own lives on social media. Social media is also an important tool for businesses, online advertising. While social media has contributed to the society, it also has some disadvantages.

Comparison. Comparing yourself to others could result in low self-esteem, depression and anxiety. Many people don’t realize that what a person’s life looks like on social media doesn’t actually reflect the reality of their life, since people tend to share only the good parts of their lives on social media.

Unrealistic beauty standard. Many selfies by Instagram models are filtered, photoshopped or they're shotted under special lighting effects. Viewing unrealistic beautiful pictures everyday could create an unrealistic beauty standard for yourself.

Distraction. People can easily get distracted by notifications, new messages, new posts or the fear of missing out. Turning notifications off is a must for studying better.

Cyberbullying. Since people can create fake accounts on social media and say anything they want without being held accountable for their words, cyberbullying has become a serious problem on social media.

Online predator. Online predators may use fake profile pictures and pretend to be teenagers, celebrities or influencers, trying to lure teenage girls to share nude photos or even ask to meet them, just to kidnap them.

Addiction. Social media addiction is now a problem among teenagers and adults, just like video game addiction. Social media can even be more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. Social media addiction can affect mental health, study, work or relationship.
