Is my way of using "rather" acceptable?

Some people say that love and hate are completely different things. Rather, I think they are closely related.

I'm going to disagree and say, yes, you can use 'rather' as an adverbial introduction to a sentence in that way. It shows that you have made a choice and are emphasising it. Rather, I think you are right
