Is my sentence using 'what' and 'in comparison' correctly written?

A symposium was held in my cousins' university yesterday. The guest speaker said that such an activity was expected to provide them valuable insights into/on the differences between careers or professions and determine what difference a particular career or profession could make in comparison with others.
