Hi Stella,

This one is a little tricky. If Coney Island were a city, you'd say "in."

If Coney Island were a real island, like Fiji, I'd say "on."

But I do think that either "in" or "at" would word with Coney Island.

What do others think?

Hi, Grammar Geek

The sentence : "My mum is dreaming about a stay in a luxury hotel in Coney Island" is referring to a stay in a luxury hotel in front of or near Coney Island beach(that stays in Brooklyn, New York, isn't it ?), such as a seaside vacation. So in this context how should I write: on/at/in or both (at,in)?

Thanks again for your attention,

My vote goes to "at".

I think that "at" is probably the best choice, considering it as a destination

Hi, Philip

Thanks for your help. By the way, the answer is the preposition at because the use of in gives an errouneous idea that the luxury hotel is on Coney Island beach. Am I wrong? If so, what's the correct explanation, please?

Use "in" for cities. Where will you stay in New York? Where will you stay in Brooklyn? Where will stay at the beach?

If you say "on the beach" it sounds like you're on the sand.
