Is my revision of the sentence correct?

Is my revision of the following sentence correct? (I revised it because it contains the words causes and causing which sound redundant.)

The virus causes the cell to explode, causing infectious particles to fly and scatter all over the body.

This is my revision: The virus causes the cell to explode and the infectious particles to fly and scatter all over the body.
