Thank you in advance ;-)
David.
Dear Professor XXX,
I am writing to you in order to express my great interest in applying for the PhD-program you are offering at XXX University.
In September 2013, I got the Master degree in Electromechanical Engineering at XXX, XXX. During my last academic year, I had a chance to do my master thesis within the context of mobility program at the XXX in the XXX Laboratory. My thesis was conducted under the supervision of Professor XXX, and looks to the assessment of the effects a stress concentrator on a tensile specimen dynamically-loaded. In my work, I focussed on both an experimental work throughout tests using the Split-Hopkinson Pressure Bar in tension and compression as well, and a numerical work with the aim to highlight the physical phenomenons governing the experiments. There I gained further understanding of academic principles and practical experience. Most of all, I had the opportunity to work with students and international researchers, who stimulated my enthusiasm about enhancing my research experience with a PhD-program. As I realized with great appreciation how this experience has been enriching for me, I chose to apply for a program in your department.
Hardworking, open minded and knowledge hungry, I gained understanding in dynamics mechanics of materials as well as working experiences in an international environment all long my exchange at the XXX. Your program covers areas of research that match my interests. I am strongly committed to realizing a PhD dissertation of high quality, and to participating in the most diligent way to the researches and works of the department.
XXX University established it-self as one the dynamic place of knowledge and researches whom the position is widely recognized at the international scale and all over XXX as well. Further, it is well known that the department of XXX Engineering is highly active in the field of dynamics mechanics of materials throughout the large number of publications already produced. Finally, one of my intention is also to place my curriculum in a context of linguistic and cultural immersion in the XXX Community of XXX. For all these points, the integration of a PhD-program in XXX University will not only give me the possibility to pursue my career with a stronger position and a serious background, but also to help me to build my life project as I perceive it as human.
In addition to my background in electromechanics engineering, I also have acquired an extensive knowledge in Bio-engineering throughout my first master course in XXX Engineering at the University YYY of YYY. Completing my knowledge in industrial sciences, this part of my education not only provided the opportunity to enlarge my engineering skills in fields of sciences and technologies dealing with life matters, but also developed my capacities to integrate different disciplines and to interact with different partners.
I would enjoy discussing this position with you in the weeks to come. In the meantime, I am enclosing my Curriculum Vitae, a copy of my master thesis, grades and transcript. Letters of recommendation will arrive under separate cover. If you require any additional materials or information, I am happy to supply it. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
I am looking forward to your acceptance.
Yours faithfully
