Is 'more' needed'?

Hi everybody

We should treat animals with (more) respect, especially if they are kept as pets. We should not take them for walks and give them food meant for dogs, and not leftovers.

Is 'more' needed? Are there any errors in the sentence?

Thanks in advance.
