Is met with sth.

Hi, I'm reading a sentence: Her speech was met with universal approval.

I'm wondering why it is in passive form? is it difference from 'her speech met with ... ' ?

Thanks.

In this instance, because of the symmetrical nature of "met with", there does not seem much difference between the passive and the active.
