Is 'KNOW + TO' possible?

Is there anything you would improve?
If people don't know to call you several times because your phone is broken, people won't be able to get ahold of you.

If people don't know to call you several times because your phone is broken, they won't be able to get hold of you. I would never use "ahold". It's mainly used in America, I think, and it is described as informal.
