Understanding grammar is key to understanding a language. I read the above in one of the YouTube videos.
Do we need "a/an/the/nil/" before "key to understand…". Why didn't they use any article before "key"?

My perception is that "key" in "is key to ~" is an adjective. In "is the key to ~" it is a noun of course.
