Is it wrong to write....

"I have sent you the samples on Aug. 1, 2006"?

I was told if I use present perfect tense, then the date should not be attached in the end. Why? Could someone share with me? Thank you.

You were told correctly. The meaning we intend to convey when we use the present perfect tense with an action verb like "send" is that the action described happened at some unspecified time in the past. You can't have one part of the sentence meaning "at some unspecified ti

Many thanks to all the friends helping answer my question. Now I see the logic in it. I will share your excellent remarks with my colleagues at work. That's a part where many Chinese-native speaker would get confused. We kind of mix them together in our mother tongue, I mean, the "Have" and the "exact date".

In my country, the ability of writing in good Chinese is deteriorating especially among teenagers. Mostly due to the over-simplifed, incoherent, and fragmented sentences amply used in the internet chat room. I have nothing against it, but it does have some disturbng impact.

Let me tell you a real joke. A teacher posted a sentence written by her student on the internet, and caused some discussion. I mean in Chinese.

At the first sight, the grammar seems all right. But soon you notice the mistake.

I guess that junior high kid was actually trying to say "My family members, including Dad, come back one after another in the evening".
