Is it working/does it work

Hi;

I heard this question( s ) in a TV show.

Is it working, Stefan? Being around her, being in her world. Does it make you feel alive?

Shouldn't it be 'does it work'?

Thank you.

I have no problem with "Is it working?" It reinforces the speaker's belief that it's temporary, or at least a new situation.
