Is it true? - Is this true? or Is that true?

In the example below, should I use "Is it true?", "Is this true?" or "Is that true?"

Rumour has it (that) you're going to be the next managing director. Is it true?/is this true?/Is that true?

In my experience, "Is it true?" is the most frequent phrase in this context.

"Is that true?" is next most frequent, and "Is this true?", while possible, is the least used.
