Is it right to use the adverb 'always' in the past simple tense

Today I found the following sentence:

'He always rode the coach to work'

Is it correct? I was taught that present simple tense refers to a single action only. Is it anything else I should be aware of?

I should have typed 'past simple and not 'present simple' Sorry. In fact my thought was: 'I was taught that past simple tense refers to a single action only.'

Does it change anything? After all 'rode' is past simple form. Isn't it?
