Is it present simple tense or complement?

1. He is my brother. (I know it's a complement sentence. My question is that, is it a present simple tense as well as complement sentence?)

Thanks my teachers.

That surprises me because "He is my brother" doesn't look the slightest bit complex to me. What feature of that sentence am I missing that makes it complex?
