Hi

The phrase 'hurt for someone' seems OK to me if it means that you empathise with their suffering

The phrase 'forgot to hurt for you' sounds awkward but, when people are expressing such things, they do speak awkwardly

The meaning is certainly clear: I was so overcome with grief for the death of your dad that I neglected your own feelings

As a mother, I can tell you that I most certainly hurt for my children. When they are upset, especially by the actions of others, I hurt too.

hurt: [no object] (of a person) feel distress:he was hurting badly, but he smiled through his tears. (Oxford online)

Your sentence is fine.
