Is it okay to say this phrase or is it too awkward?

"I'm not worthy to read this book"

How would you rephrase it while still including the word, worthy?

Thank you

What are you trying to say? This is book is so special and so sacred that only very worthy, pure, sinless people may open its covers? Anyone not worthy will be smited?

It's like telling someone that he doesn't deserve to read the book

I'm trying to understand the function of worthy and how it is nomally constructed in a phrase.

Hey,

I think that you are trying to say 'this book is not worth reading'.If you are describing the book as its not adding a value or knowledge to you.

Now,using the word worth normally comes before a noune as an adjective,i.e. you are describing the book as i wrote above. But,using the word "worthy" after 'I am' describes that your are not worthy.A bit wrong way to use the wordl i

That was a good idea. We shouldn't have dismissed it so soon. It was worthy of further consideration.
