Is it OK not to use parallelism?

(1) I am going shopping at ABC Store and plan to visit my friend tonight.

(2) Tom might come to my house later and then goes to the library.

My friends think the verb forms have to be parallel and suggest

(1a) I am going shopping at ABC Store and planning to visit my friend tonight.

(2a) Tom might come to my house later and then go to the library.

I think parallelism is not needed if you interpret them this way.

(1b) I am going shopping at ABC Store, and I plan to visit my friend tonight.

(2b) Tom might come to my house later and then he goes to the library.

Based on my interpretations, are my original sentences (1) and (2) OK? Thanks.

(1) is OK. (1a) is also OK. (2) is not good despite your attempt to interpret it so that it's OK.

  • (1) is OK.
  • (1a) is also OK.
  • (2) is not good despite your attempt to interpret it so that it's OK.
  • You need to use (2a).
  • You can have, however, Tom comes to my house later, then goes to the library.

(2) is not good despite your attempt to interpret it so that it's OK. You need to use (2a).

You can have, however,
