is it not proper to use in writing?

Hi.

I have got a gramma form as following.

How much do you have water?
How much contrast does your image has?

But someome told me what above sentence not proper to writting.

I can't not understand it.
Does anyone let me know the reason of why?

I want to know that someone told me above sentence form(like how much water do you have?) Which is not proper to use in writting. But in verbal ok.
