is it necessary to write "the"?

Hi,

When i am trying to give a location a description, is it necessary to write all the's in the sentence "a flag raising ceremony was held in the square in the front entrance of the Parliament building?"

If it is not necessary, please tell me what is the rule of thumb for putting an article in front of "of". I remembered one time my English teacher told me sometimes it is not necessary to write them down and I couldn't understand why.

thx

As I know, THE is the definite article and we use it before a noun when the noun is specific or particular and when we use it with a noncount noun, the can be omitted. It is used before names of most countries, before name of continents, cities, streets, lakes, geograhical areas, and before rivers, seas.

"The" is not used before the names of most countries, not before the names of continents, cities, streets and lakes but it is used before the names of seas and rivers. You can read more

1.We have to use it before geographical names at plural ( states, mountains, points of the compass, deserts).

2. At that hour I was driving along the Union Street.
3. We usually meet in a bar in the High Street

Is that right?

Yes. All that is explained in the link I provided in my previous post.

Thank you very much! I should have had to make a research to find the previous thread before posting.

What about number 2 and 3? Can someone tell me if they are correct, please?

The names of streets don't normally take an article. However, if there is a town or a city in the Anglo-Saxon world where the locals use an article before those names, then the article is right. In London, for example, there are at least two streets that take "the": the Mall and the Strand.
