Is it necessary to include...

A: "Last time I spoke to you it didn't sound too promising. Please tell me you're doing better."

B: "I am. The chemotherapy is working, so I'm very relieved right now."

Is it necessary to include I spoke to you or can I leave it out?

Also, is too promising natural here?

anonymous Is it necessary to include I spoke to you or can I leave it out? That's the question A is asking about B. A leaves out I spoke to you if A thinks B will understand without A's having to say it.
