Is it natural to use 'wreck' about a person?

(fiction)

When my brother died two months ago I was afraid I'd be a total/complete wreck and that it would be obvious to everybody, but I've been a lot stronger than I thought I would.

Is 'wreck' natural to use about a person who's in a very bad place mentally because of sorrow? Would 'mess' be better? Also, are 'total' and 'complete' equally natural for this context?
