Is it correct to say "this chapter means to introduce ......"?

I have written a paper and there is a chapter in which I introduced somethine about a computational method. However, someone didn't understand it and don't know why I wrote it. Under this situation, may I tell him "this chapter means to introduce **** method"? What I want to express is the porpose I write the chapter is to introduce ***** method?
