Is it correct to say “ prepare a cake “ ?

Hallo

Can anyone tell me if this sentence is correct or not? "Is it normal to stay wake up until the morning just to prepare a cake and after finish preparing it, throw it in the garbage bin?"

Should i use "Make" instead of "prepare" and "Stay up" or "Stay awake" instead of using "Stay wake up"?

Thank you.
