Is it correct to say "gift of the Mellon Foundation" or "gift from the Mellon Foundation?

We want to put a plaque on a donated item. Is it better to say:

Gift of the Mellon Foundation

or

Gift from the Mellon Foundation?

Thanks!

The traditional wording on a plaque would be "gift of", thus: "Gift of the Mellon Foundation". The person who receives it would say later, "I received a gift from the Mellon Foundation".

Dear CJ,

How about the other one? Is that sounds odd?

Thank you in advance

It seems odd to me because I have seen quite a few plaques of the kind described. There is nothing ungrammatical about 'a gift from ...', but I don't see that written on plaques.
