is it correct to follow can and can't by verb+ing?

example: why can't breathing count as a hobby?

Top answer

This is correct except that you must remember to start sentences with a capital letter: W hy can't breathing count as a hobby? In this case "breathing" is functioning as a noun (gerund). An interesting question.

Thank you very much!
I really like people who explain things clearly just like what you did specially for those who aren't expert at English

If it does count, then it's a "hobby" of everyone who's been born and who's alive.

It is not correct to follow any modal verb (can, will, etc.) by the -ing form of a verb, but -ing forms that are used as subjects or objects don't count. breathing is the subject so it's OK to put it after the modal form can't.
