Is it correct or not???

In order to receive a Series 1.0 qualification certificate, I had to take and pass two exams. OR I should've written "In order to recieve a Series 1.0 qualification certificate, I had taken and passed two exams". What's the difference in meaning between these 2 options?

You should write this:

In order to receive a Series 1.0 qualification certificate, I passed two exams.
