Is it correct?

Hi.
Is saying "that I need spend" correct? Is it possible to place two verbs successively? Thank you in advance.

Indeed, because it is extracted from William James' The Principles of Psychology-1842. Would it be odd, if I use it in my writings?

Not particularly, but you can use 'need' as a modal only in a negative context:

I need spend no time ...
I need spend some time ...

I don't think you need worry about ...
I think you need worry about ...

You needn't come in ...
You need come in ...
